Happiest of Holidays in the High Country

December 23, 2016

Christmas Snow globe Snowflake with Snowfall on Blue BackgroundWith all of the craziness these last two months, holidays in the high country are pretty blissful. The days can range from sunny and clear to freshly falling powder and even a full on blizzard. This morning when I looked out, it was as if someone had shaken a snowglobe, there were wonderful chunky, flurries whisping through the blue, sun filled sky. When you wake up to that it’s hard to have a bad day.

If you’re looking for things to do, other than skiing or snowboarding this weekend, you have come to the right place! There all sorts of fun things to do, that don’t involve getting on the mountain.

First, you can pick up a copy of the Explore Summit Weekender for all kinds of
activities and great things happening this Carolingweekend. Some of the things we perused were Singing with Santa tonight with the Summit Choral Society, this takes place at Our Lady of Peace in Silverthorne at 7pm and tomorrow morning from 10:00 – 12:00pm at ABasin. If yoga is more your thing, you might try candlelight yoga tomorrow morning from 7:00 – 8:15am at the Copper Mountain Chapel. Meta Yoga in Breckenridge and Summit Hot Yoga in Frisco also have classes happening throughout the weekend.

ice skatesTwo of my favorite things to take part in this time of year is nordic skiing and ice skating! If you need gear and a lesson, check out the Frisco Nordic Center website for rentals, lessons and trail conditions. And while you’re there, you may want to check out the tubing, sleigh rides and other activities that you can partake in. For ice skating, since we haven’t had too many sub zero days for freezing the ponds, check out the Stephen C. West ice arena in Breckenridge. Tonight and 12.30.16, from 6:30 – 8:30pm they will host Disco Ball Skate. Really, can it get any better than that?

We hope you have a beautiful weekend and a wonderful Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and holiday season. Enjoy the snow, the sun and most of all, the family and friends that make this time of year so special. We’ll leave you with a new favorite Christmas song from Jon Batiste to get you in the mood.

Cheers!
